2018 GOALS!

Although everyday is a learning curve and every race another great day out for me and the family, I do have a few goals I would like to achieve in 2018

I have achieved a huge personal goal already just by getting here and running this race last year gave me a good insight into the race itself and the runners. Just putting on the red Welsh vest is an honour but I would like to do my country, my family and myself proud and prove that the selectors made the right decision by selecting me by giving it everything. I’d love to get on the podium and get a medal so that’s the goal, this race is full of talent from England, Scotland, and Wales with the best 100k runners in the country competing so I’m not sure how realistic a top 3 position is but it’s something I am going to be going for and training for.

In 2017 I ran with the British team along the 153 mile multi terrain route from Athens to Sparta, completing it in 27 hours and being the first brit to cross the finish line!  This race has been my dream race since I first heard about it. It has been the focus of all my training for the best part of 2 years and i think now I have experienced it, why not try and go for it next year? It is widely regarded as the greatest ultra on the planet and I am so proud to have taken part in it. As this race gets more and more popular it’s getting harder to get in, the ballot is always over subscribed and with only 25 places available to UK nationals getting a place on the British Spartathlon Team is tough so I knew I had to go via the auto qualification route. Last year I managed to get the auto qualification times in both a 100k and 100 mile race and this year I managed to Auto qualify with my time from this years race so now I want to go there and see what I can do. The goal last year was to finish, most people don’t! But next year I also have a top 5 goal which may be completely naive and unrealistic but again it’s something I want to go for, but just to be there and be a part of it again is something I’ll remember for ever.
