From Puddings To Podiums, Nathan started his running Journey in 2015, trained himself and now runs for his country in Ultra Marathons Worldwide.


From 16 Stone to Ultra Marathon Runner

In 2015 I decided to change my life for the better, I weighed over 16 stone, smoked 40 cigarettes a day, drank frequently and lived off a diet of junk food and ready meals!

On January 2nd 2015 at the age of 31, I went for my first run… A 1 mile DOWNHILL stretch which left me wheezing, gasping for breath and walking back to the top. This didn’t put me off and over the next few months I continued by running 3-4 times a week adding a mile to the distance each week. Who knew then that in just 2 years time I’d be selected to run Ultra Marathons for my country.

I had caught the running bug BIG TIME!

With my new found love I began reading and researching every aspect of running, injury prevention, nutrition for speed and more. With this new knowledge I began testing it on myself and saw huge improvement gains.

Testing Nutrition

I changed my diet a number of times throughout my journey and tested each diet on different races to gain better knowledge and understanding and find the right formula to use long into the future.

From High Fat Low Carb to Vegetarian, Vegan, Meat only and Gluten Free I tried them all, and even took a nutrition course to gain more knowledge to better my performance which I believe really paid off. After just 6 months of running I entered my first Ultra, The Chiltern Challenge 50K and although it hurt the whole way round I finished it! Exactly 1 year later I won my first Ultra Marathon, The Ham & Lyme 100K.
